Twitter is the simplest way to communicate with the people in your group. Each member of the family can create a Twitter account (all you need is an e-mail address and it's all free). You can have MamaTwitter, DaddyTwitter, and Twits 1, 2, and 3 (the kids). As soon as the accounts are created, each member can find the rest of the family by using the Twitter search browser and "Follow" them - "Following" is the equivalent of being a"Friend" on MySpace or Facebook. This is the easiest way to keep track of each other throughout the day. Example:
MamaTwitter: I'll be late from the office tonight. What are we going to do about dinner?
@MamaTwitter DaddyTwitter: I can pick up Chinese at 7.
@MamaTwitter Twit1: I'm staying at practice till 7. Can dad pick me up before getting the Chinese food?
Each "Tweet" (update) has to be 140 characters or less. When you respond to a tweet the "@" sign of the person you're responding to shows before your name (thus in the example "@MamaTwitter DaddyTwitter: I can pick up Chinese at 7", DaddyTwitter is responding to MamaTwitter, so the @ sign shows before MamaTwitter).
This can be a place to access every member of the family throughout the day. If you want your in laws, aunts and uncles to have access to your group, they can create an account and you can all follow each other for an open book communication for the entire family.
If you want to keep your family group private, yet connect with others, you can create another Twitter account and start following your co-workers, friends and associates. As soon as you create an account, you have nothing but a blank page to stare at. It is only when you start following people that Twitter becomes exciting. The more interesting the people you are following, the more fascinating your Twitter journey.
Here is a good place to start: WeFollow.com is a veritable treasure trove of the most popular people on Twitter. CNN.com seems to be the most popular Twitter with over 855,000 followers. Britney Spears appears to be the second, with almost 780,000 followers. Ashton Kutcher, Jimmy Fallon and John Mayer seem to be third, fourth and fifth, in that order.
I just checked out the top Twitters and perused the few people these large players are following and just started following some of those people. Although the NY Times is being followed by almost 540,000 people, it's only following 80. I am now following several of those 80 people; I figure if they are good enough for the NY Times, they are good enough for me.
Go ahead and create a profile tonight! You can follow me for starters, by just clicking on any one of the birdies in this blog. Come back here soon for Lesson 2 of Twitter!

If you join Twitter, do you automatically become a Twit? :)
Not sure I want to know what everyone is doing, every moment of the day ...
I really like it when someone calls me, if they really want to talk to me. :)
Chris and Chuck: I wrote this blog for you. My Twitter journey has been fascinating. I created the Twitter profile when I was researching a blog I wrote on social networking. Twitter made absolutely no sense to me; all I had was a blank page staring at me. I couldn't understand what all the hoopla was about. Somehow people started following me. I followed every follower and pretty soon I started discovering the beauty of Twitter.
It has been the most incredible source of information. I will explain more in the following Twitter Tutorials. Stay tuned and please join in! You'll soon understand my enthusiasm for Twitter.
Sylvie, just join and start following. I GUARANTEE you'll understand it much better. ...And yes, joining makes you a Twitter, but a Twit is sometimes just as appropriate...
Here is an example of my Twitter screen:
Wow! This is GREAT Mirela! Thanks! I joined Twiiter but I haven't really been using it because, just like you, it was making no sense to me. OK. I'm on it! TIME TO TWITTER!!!
Hi, I'm on Twitter but I only Tweet out. I don't follow anyone yet. I just added it to my website so that I could give updates for people to see. Stats, etc. People started following me but I think many of them are just promoting their own businesses. Also many are other real estate agents and are probably using my stats for their own purposes. I'm still not sold on it.

Jenny: ...And you won't be, until YOU follow some interesting people whose information YOU can use. I have learnt so much on Twitter. A lot of our AR Luminaries garner their marketing and high tech information from there. You are losing a lot, by not following others.
I follow everyone who is following me. If I see a pattern of "selling" or non-sense, I just "unfollow" them. It's very simple.
Great explanation. I'm surprised that I wasnt already following you.
Justin: Don't be! Although I made a profile in March, I only started using Twitter a week and a half ago. I have over 650 followers already, making me one of the top 5 Twitters in my area. My quick Twitter Ascent has garnered me some admonishing from some of my friends, and I've been accused of "Over Tweeting". I have driven traffic to my sites at an incredible rate, so I really don't care what anybody says. It is the most affordable marketing I've ever found.
I will teach you how to quantify your traffic garnered from Twitter in an upcoming Twitter Tutorial. Stay tuned1
As soon as you follow me I'll follow you right back!
Does not make sense for a listing agent. You must concentrate on buyer agency. Not a profitable endeavor. Buyers are hit or miss.
David: I currently have $3.3 Mil in pending transactions. About half of them are Buyer Transactions and the other half are Seller Transactions, with a couple of dual agencies sprinkled in for good measure. There is no price to put for information and I've garnered so much great info on Twitter. You are missing out if you are dismissing it so summarily. I urge you to just try following some interesting people, then come back here and give me your opinion!
Here is my current Twitter roll. Click on the links you see in the Twitter roll and see the kind of information available from the various Twitters:

Mirela - I love twitter - I have made so many great contacts throughout the country in my fields. Links to articles or blog posts I never would have found - plus just finding others that think like I do has been great. I love following people and seeing what they are up to and the back and forth when something funny or interesting gets posted. I did learn that you don't follow everyone that follows you and that spam goes to twitter just as it does everywhere but it is one of my favorite things to do on the web.
I little blue birdie told me you were going to post something about this. Thanks so much!
Chuck: You are very welcome! I believe in Twitter and I love all the information I am able to glean there. It's like an Information Smorgus-Board - An All You Can Eat Information Buffet and I never leave hungry. I hope you'll let me teach you what I've learnt and maximize your Twitter experience, plus derive the wonderful benefits of garnering leads by driving traffic to your blogs and websites.
Liz: I'm with you 100%! It's one of my favorite things to do on the web - along with AR, of course.
I love twitter. I find it fun and informative. I have made some great contacts just like on active rain.
Only you would write a blog post on how to use Twitter in the format of The Three Bears, you are so cute and clever ~ and how do you have the time?
