Born within a few blocks of Dracula's castle and having had my primary education in Romania, I was raised to respect this important historical figure known as Vlad Tepes, the man the legend is based on.
The Romanian history I was taught painted Vlad Tepes as a revered and much appreciated ruler. Known as Vlad The Impaler, he cleansed his country of thieves, charlatans and prostitutes. He stood up to the Ottoman Empire and was loved and respected by his people.
My Romanian education taught me to appreciate this fearless ruler. When I came to the United States at the age of 15, I was surprised to find a different story modeled after the very same man. An enlightening book reconciled the two views into my current understanding of Vlad Tepes/Dracula: In Search of Dracula: The History of Dracula and Vampires by Raymond McNally and Radu Florescu (two authors-one American, one Romanian).
The following Discovery Channel Documentary presented in three parts below, is the most accurate portrayal of Dracula I have ever found. I hope you enjoy it! It is a story unlike any other. Please let me know what you think about it after you watch it! If you are very limited on time, start with part 2.
In spite of all my interruptions, I managed to finish this "project". I hope you enjoy it! What an intriguing story this is!
I know it's not Real Estate, but good stories are always worth telling and God knows, we need a "breather" from our pressure filled days...
This is no "LOL Friday", but the radically different stratum should provide much needed respite from the mundane... Enjoy!

Interesting subject.....I don't have time right now, but will come back to this. It's often true that real history varies from the stories told about it. :)

And I thought the vampire story about dracula was just some sucky fable.

I have seen many documentaries on the subject of this ruler and the stories that he inspired. I have found all of them to be very interesting.

Mirela, why I have seen many stories on the truth behind the legend those were very informative. It is always good to hear from both sides of the story. Yes it is nice to take a break from RE once in awhile.

Mirela! My husband was born not to far from you, and also raised in Romania. (I KNEW there was a special reason I liked you!) He also talks fondly of Vlad, saying before him everyone stole, after him you could leave a pound of gold on your porch and no one would touch it....go figure.
No time to watch the video, I'll come back later.
Thank you Multumesc!

Wow. It certainly wasn't complimentary. Why would Romanians praise a man such as that? Even if he fought off the Muslims (today's buzz, but accurate) he also horribly murdered thousands of others. Seems to me that he's not much better than Hitler. No wonder the story of Dracula came from all that carnage.
Oh well...it sure was interesting to watch!
