Who Needs Prince Charming When You’ve Got Dopey?

Is it any wonder that as women we have such misplaced expectations of the opposite gender?   The notion of “Prince Charming” fostered by all the fairy tales we grew up with practically ensures “Relationship Failure” in adulthood.

Take Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for example:  Gorgeous Prince Charming just whisks by and gives her that magic kiss that wakes her up from the dead and they live happily ever after, or do they?

Where was Prince Charming when Snow White needed help?  He was probably at the gym primping up…

As for me, I wish that Snow White had ended up with Happy, Dopey or Doc.  Prince Charming’s enticements can only last so long; after a while, you are left with the substance of a man...  His character, loyalty and dependability suit a girl a heck of a lot better in the long run than all of the Prince’s Charms…

This was originally a comment I had made on my previous blog:

The Innocuous Adventures of a Newly Minted Single Girl

I liked it so much that I had to share it with you.  I hope you agree that it had merit to become its own blog.

I look forward to hearing from you on this topic!  Is Prince Charming all that he's cracked up to be, or is he at the root of our Relationship woes?

I think we (females) WANT Prince Charming . . . but in a sad role reversal, the moment we kiss the prince he turns into a FROG!

Carla:  Wow, that's pretty scathing!  ...Quite funny too!

I love this community (AR)!  It's ripe with witty and resourceful people.

Mirela...Doc would be good for flu season and prescription drugs, Dopey has low expectations, Sneezey keeps to himself, sleepy is harmless, grumpy well you know what you're getting, and bashful is easy to push around...can't remember what the rest of the names were...was their an A.D.D.dwarf...Oh look a chicken.. what was the question...? You'll make your own happiness and it shouldn't rely on any one else  for intervention...prince charming is a bit effeminate and could turn out not be be a great choice all thing considered.                                           P.S my vote is for happy when it comes right down to it!!

Steve:  BTW, My first choice was Happy.  Dopey is what we usually end up with (I can see the women nod...); besides it sounded better in the title AND it was more familiar to us women (nod again...)

Mirela - Thanks for making me smile.  I have seen that whole cast of characters.  In the long run it comes down to whatever makes you happy.  Thank goodness we are all different.

Pam:  Do you mean that in real life Dopey COULD be THE Prince Charming?

Yup, I get it now!

Thank you!

Mirela - I love my personal "Dopey"!  I would ... however ... like a "Prince Charming" for as son-in-law!

Mirela - I love this post. I never really thought about the expectation that girls are set up with when they watch all those fairy tales. This was funny and refreshing and I love my dopey/grumpy because you can always hold him down and tickle him and then he turns into bashful/happy!

Mirela, we need to stop looking for Prince Charming and start looking for a real man! And if he scratches his crotch, oh well, he is still a man!

Hi Mirela,

I had a chance to play Snow White part in real life.I had to go by the script of course not to embarrass Prince Charming. At certain point I was told to switch with Dopey I said "no f....  way,I am a big star here and I'm not going to play some Dopey part for him to take my place",that's when I was fired.Guess who is playing Snow White part now, of course Prince Charming and Dopey is his girlfriend.

Mirela: As women we set ourselves and prince charming up for failure by setting the bar way too high. There is no prince charming. Yes, there are some good guys out there. Prince Charming is just a myth of our society. You can look at it from the guys point of view ( and I'm not taking up for the guys! ) how would you feel if you had to try to live up to prince charmings' expectations?
