Three Boats; Only One Vacation... Please Help Me Decide Which One to Take!

cruising 2010

Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival have all launched brand new Mega Ships within the last 30 days:

Royal Caribbean – 220,000-ton "Oasis of the Seas" – 5,400 passengers

Norwegian – 150,000-ton "Epic" – 4,200 passengers

Carnival – 130,000-ton "Carnival Dream" – 3,646 passengers

Soon, I will vacation on one of these ships.  I need you to help me decide which one to take.  Since all three of them have state of the art technology, I will be blogging and uploading pictures and video of my trip on a daily basis, so you can vacation right along with me.

Instead of enumerating the many exciting features of each ship - like water parks, rock climbing walls, mini golf and ice-skating rinks at sea, I am posting videos of each one so you can see for yourselves.  Enjoy your imaginary vacation!  Please help me decide: which one of these ships should I board and why?

Of course there is only one answer- BOTH!  And, you can take me.  My anti-social husband thinks the ships are too big and told me to have fun and send him a postcard.

But, I typically pick Royal over NCL because I like a set dinner time rather than a wait.  I also like knowing the wait staff and having my diet coke waiting for me when I get to the table :)

Last year I brought in the New Year at sea on Celebrity's Solstice, a fabulous new boat launched right before my cruise.  This year I have to experience one of these extraordinary ships, but I only have one vacation.  Maybe I should title the blog:  "Three Ships, One Vacation"...

Dawn:  What do you mean: both?  (there are THREE choices).   I guess you are not even considering the Carnival cruise?

By the way, I love Royal Caribbean too, but I still have a bone to pick with them for leaving me behind in St. Martin.

Dawn:  Has your husband ever been on one of these "too big" boats?  They are awesome!  There is something for everyone, even the recluse.  These boats have so many nooks and crannies that are devoid of people and ever so lovely.  I typically find a few of those sweet spots on each boat I take and spend a bit of time there all by myself.   There was a special spot on the Solstice right at the tip of the ship.  I would sit there and watch the ocean.  That's where I first saw flying fish.  It was an incredible experience to see these creatures just dash out of the water at incredible speed.

Mirela -

I vote (we are voting, right?) for the one where you can do as the guy in the pix is doing....riding one of those sliding rope lines ...out over the cavernous atrium in the center of the ship.  I expect to see your personal video on that one....right here in the RAIN.

Hi, Mirela. Looks like you can't go wrong, no matter which you choose.

I know from reading your posts that you have been sad and stressed lately so I'm glad you're going to have a vacation and I hope you HAVE A REALLY WONDERFUL TIME!

Hi Mirela,

I'm happy for you, that you are going to have finally a little time to relax.I would pick Royal Carribean but if they would ever leave me behind I wouldn't spend my money on one of their cruises again.

Have a Great Vacation !

Happy Holiday season !

Mirela, My wife and I have taken a few cruises, and have found the Royal Caribbean Line to be just right...

Hi Mirela,

I'd cross out the Carnival and it will make it easier to choose. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean over 35 times and like them but are preferring smaller ships now. Celebrity has a new line out called Azamara and we went on the Quest last year and the Journey this year. Amazing ships but look at the ports you go into..that may make your decision for you.

I like the Norwegian Epic the best after watching the videos.  I did not care for the Carnival option.  I love Royal Caribbean TV commercials but I've never been on a cruise - so any cruise would be awesome to me!

I have never been on a cruise but after watching these video's I am ready. Which one would I choose that is tough...Carnival looked soso, The Royal Caribbean seems to city to be a ship. I am really loving the SPA rooms on the epic, I just was not impressed with the video. Which ever one you pick I can't wait for your daily updates!! Have enough fun for all of us!!

Hi Mirela!  If I had to go on a cruise ship I would pick Royal C.

but I am not a cruize person, I feel trapped on a ship.  I would rather go to an island. or
