This is a great tool to employ before you embark on your web optimization.
Mirela, Here is a question as a related topic, Would it be cheaper to register a domain name : realestateinmyrtlebeachnc.com and hope that it comes up near the top of an organic search, then launch a web site that has a few tools and pictures plus a link to your main web page?
Mirela - That is pretty cool! I will have to check this out. Thanks for the information! :)
Steve: My website is called www.MyrtleBeachHomes.us and I don't rank anywhere in the top pages when you search under the phrase Myrtle Beach Homes. My key words are in place, the domain is in place, yet without active web optimization you are Google personna non gratta! That's why I decided to spend some money on it recently....
Debi: so how well did you fare? It's fun, isn't it?
What interesting information. No wonder I find such interesting things. I never mastered spelling in school. Thank goodness for spell check...when I remember it...haha
I can't wait to look my name....bo Hussung is going to be a funny one. Not that I am vain or anything, but my name gets butchered more than a side of beef.
This ought to be fun.
Thanks
Bo
I followed your links to google labs but couldn't find a search bar or a link to anywhere that I could do a search like you did. Any ideas, I would LOVE to play around on that...

Janna, I followed the link provided in my blog and it took me right to it, so I copied and pasted it above for you. The search bar is right there - it looks like any other Google screen, with the exception of the words "suggest" and "labs" underneath. Just type in the box right above the words Google search & I'm feeling lucky. As soon as you start typing a word, you'll see the number of searches that correspond with that word displayed on a screen right underneath, which will open up as soon as you start typing the word.
Hope this helps!
Mirela,
The number it gives is not the number of searches being done on that term. Here's what it says:
"Google Suggest items will appear with a green number next to them representing the approximate number of results that would return for the suggested query."
To find out what terms people are searching, you need to use the Google Key Word Tool.
Both are useful. You want to find terms that are searched for a lot but don't have that many pages returned in the results of a search. The less pages with your keyword, the less competition you are going to have and optimizing will be easier.
Tim: When I type in my name it shows 297,000 searches, yet when I do the advanced search for the number of results it shows only 109,000. If what you are suggesting is correct, then why the discrepancy?
M & M?
Mirela, With your website name "MyrtleBeachHomes.us" you should be dominating for "Myrtle Beach Homes".
I quickly looked over your site and your ActiveRain blog. You probably just need some links pointing to your site with the achor text "Myrtle Beach Homes". I would put a link in your profile page and also on the right column of your blog so every time you create a post, you create another optimized link pointing to your site.
On your MyrtleBeachHomes.us site, I would a similar link in your footer that is on every page of your site. Right now in your footer, the link back to your home page is "home". Make that "Myrtle Beach Homes" and if you have a lot of pages, you will be on the first page for "Myrtle Beach Homes" before you know it.
Tim, you are an Angel!
Your earlier comment intrigued me and I wanted some instant gratification, so I started reasearching it: I found this link, where you can put in your website and it will analyze all your keywords, compare them with your competition and give you the number of searches under those keywords by the month. Here is the link and I'm going back there now to verify it.
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
Yes, that's it. I verified it. It's awesome!
I will follow everything you've mentioned above. You are so kind to share this with me!
Thanks! I've just added that neat place to my bookmarks as, "Active Rain Google Mirela."
Mirela - I'm having the same problem as Janna. Also, I tried using the link you provided in your response to her, and that didn't work, either... :(
Debi: Have you attempted to just type in a phrase yet? My assistant told me the same thing; she thought it looked just like the typical Google screen. Once she started typing, she saw the difference.
Mirela - You're right. Thank you! I'm going to start playing with it now... :)
Mirala- there are 415,000 results when you type in jeremy blanton...but to make things more accurate, you need to put things in quotation marks...when you do that, itll will drop the true numbers wayyyyyyy down!
Also, the link you put is not bringing up google labs
Jeremy, I found 423,000 entries under your name, but not searches (the entries are your posts and other material submitted on the Internet - the stats that show on the next page after you actually click on a search word).
My link works and it says google labs suggest. I don't have to add quotation marks to make it work; it works even without it. Debi was complaining about it not working earlier, but she figured it out later. I will have to defer to you on this one on principle, because I know that you are a lot more technologically advanced than I am. I have used this successfully for myself and the numbers I find there seem to jive with the professionals' numbers. I will certainly not claim to be a pro at this; only a mere dilettante. I have gotten some very good ideas from reading the comments to this post.
I need to visit your blog and see fresh pictures of Isabella. I love the pictures you post of her. That video of her and you is just precious; it always puts a smile on my face. I'll go to your blog now.
Another education post, Mirela. I too tried the link and just came up with the usual Google page but I'm sure if I go back and Google Google labs it will come up. Can't wait to see if anyone has been searching me and my business :)
