Who Has 500,000 AR Points? Which State Has the Most AR Members? Which state has the fewest? Here are ALL your Answers:

With over 122,000 members on board, Active Rain has become quite a Force.  I recently ventured into the "States" section, curious to see where our members come from.

I was not surprised to find that California had the most members, 18,113 to be exact.  Florida came in second with 13,884 members on its roster.  To make it to the front page of AR for the state of California, you have to have scored at least 97,541 points.  Florida's members are even more competitive:  to make it to the front page in that state, you better have over 110,000 points under your belt.  The reigning queen and king of that state are  Sharon Simmsand Bryant Tutas, both in the over 400,000 points club, getting ready to break the 500,000 mark.  The fourth most popular AR blogger, the team of Nestor & Katerina Gasset with almost 400,000 points are in fourth position.  Florida is one competitive state!  With my paltry 190,000 points, I would be somewhere on the bottom part of page one, instead of the fourth placement I hold in SC.

What's the easiest entry into the front page?  If you said Alaska, you're wrong!  With 174 members and a high score of almost 150,000 points for its top member, Jesse Clifton, Alaska has more members than Vermont (138), South Dakota (115), Wyoming (98) and North Dakota (71).  The state with the fewest members is not really a state, but US territory: The US Virgin Islands.  The highest score there is 21,439 and a mere 175 points will still get you on the first page.  If you lived in St. Thomas, blogging would probably be the furthest thing from your mind too.  Alaska, however, granted that your igloo was Internet connected, would feature blogging at the top of the entertainment list, somewhere between dog sledding and grocery shopping, right Jesse?  Just looking at Jesse's picture I get cold...

Newsflash:  Hawaii needs another member.   499 Members strong, Hawaii has the popular Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman and Randy L. Prothero, as the AR King and Queen of that state.  Texas, with its 7,264, seems to have several AR luminaries:  Jason Crouch, Gary Wolthal,Loreen Yeo, Karen Stone and several other well recognized members.

The two Carolinas are quite competitive also:  to make it to the front page of SC, you must have at least 31,751 points.  NC takes 10,000 additional points for front page placement.

Washington and Oregon has fewer members than I expected: 4,727 and 1,896 respectively.  Hey, isn't that where it rains a lot?  Isn't that where Active Rain started?  Come on you guys, you can't let the Carolinas beat you!  North and South Carolina's numbers are 4,731 and 2,384 and we just got Internet last week!  With weather like ours, sunny 300+ days a year and gorgeous coastal turf, we should be right there with the US Virgin Islands...

And now we come full circle to the reason I've performed this analysis.  I wanted to find out if ANYONE has over 500,000 points yet.  Guess what?  Someone does.  It's Lenn Harley of Maryland.   With over 565,000 points, Lenn is the undisputed Queen of Active Rain.   The second highest score on Active Rain belongs to Todd Clark, at the top of his page for Oregon, who will make it into the 500,000 points Club shortly.  Florida's queen and king,  Sharon Simms and Bryant Tutas are not too far behind.  Do you guys ever sell Real Estate, or do you just blog for a living?

Having amassed close to 200,000 points myself in my one year and three months here, with 656 blogs under my belt, I have no room to talk.  ...And YES, I do work!  I sell a lot of Real Estate and I run the largest independent firm in North Myrtle Beach.  BUT...  I type fast, I have a lot to say and I love the camaraderie here!  Add to that a true love of competition, a fierce and talented rival, Jeremy Blanton, and you too, will understand why.

They say that if you want the job done you should give it to someone who's busy.   They're right!  The Top Producers on Active Rain are most likely the Top Producers in their markets as well.  With over 40 clients garnered from AR and an immense amount of knowledge gleaned as well, this has been the best Investment I've ever made in my career.

My day started with an e-mail from my latest client garnered through AR.  She had her condo on the market with various agents for the past two years.  She found me on AR and hired me to sell her oceanfront condo.  That was last month.  Next week we're closing on it.  Her e-mail simply said:  "You guys are awesome!  You have done an excellent job!  Thank you!"

Thank you Active Rain for allowing me the opportunity to learn, have fun, connect with like minded people AND garner some wonderful clients!

For a while now Lenn Harley has been missing from the stats??? Is that still the case. She has way over 500,000 points! On another note. I think we may move to St. Thomas :) ~Rita

It must have been exhausting-you really did your homework! But, it was great fun to read. I'm fairly new on AR but have been enjoying my time here and I'm definitely glad I joined. Thanks for the stats-now take a break and enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Gosh!  You really did your homework here!  I can't believe some of these people have over 400,000 points!  My fingers would be tired trying to get all of those points. ;0) Glad to be a part of AR in California and meet the many great members like you from across the states!  Thanks for sharing all of this information!

Hi Mirela - Interesting stats on how competitive some of the states are. As for points, Lenn Harley has over 565,000 ... and I see that you'll soon be passing 200,000! Here's a link to the overall rankings.

It is humbling to know that after all this time in the rain, I still have so much more to learn!  It is only when I write blogs like this that I obtain an even deeper understanding of AR, thanks to you, my friends, readers and contributors!  Another year or two here and I'll have it down pat.  Then, they'll go and change the entire system, you watch!  In that regard, AR is just like Real Estate:  Just when you have all the answers, they change all the questions!

Posted by Mirela Monte, Myrtle Beach Real Estate (Buyers' Choice Realty) about 10 years ago

John:  Thank you for that link!  I didn't even know it existed.

Lourdes:  Yes, I know!  This could be a full time job.

Michelle:  Right!  Follow John's link to see just how many members have amassed some serious points.  With 190,000 points, I am only member nr. 111 (as far as points are concerned).  As far as readership, I am nr. 54 or 57, depending on the day.

Wow, the stats on this blog are amazing, and I'm not referring to the content, which I wrote, but the ratio between the hits and the comments.  I guess my hypothesis was right: if you want to be popular, write about a popular subject: AR points and AR points Top Producers.

Hey, where's my gold star?  Bob, Rich, throw me a bone here, will ya'?  This took quite an effort to produce and it's the perfect blog for AR PR...

...I knew I should have put the words "Thanksgiving" in the title...

You're supposed to take the day off - aren't you?

Thanks for the info.  Indeed, my roughly 149,500 points makes me Number 5 in Illinois, yet I would be far lower down the list in CA or FL.

Amazing, though, if you break it out by CITY.  I'm the Number 1 Real Estate Agent in Chicago, but the Number 2 Real Estate Agent, respected Tech and Investment Property Guru Barbara Van Stensel, is 115,000 points or so behind me.

Great to be acauinted with all you fine folks, however - and have already met many of you via the AR Community.

Gotta go - and have another piece of Pumpkin Pie!

Wow!   I am delighted with the response to this post!

I was intrigued by this subject; I'm glad you are too!

I love statistics!  When you simplify and find the common denominator, you get a better understanding of the subject at hand.  That's why I have made it my mission to watch the numbers for my area.

AR has been such an amazing journey and it has basically saved my business.  All around us, agencies are closing their doors.  Our company is doing quite well and I attribute that momentum to the updated information I obtain regularly on AR.  The clients I've garnered here are investors who make buying a regular part of their business and that has certainly helped.

I will try to follow up with your comments in between my work obligations today.  Thank you very much for your input!

I'll start with Jesse:  Your humorous response put a big smile on my face.  Thank you for that!

I don't think I'll leave my sunny shores for -40 degree weather any time soon, no matter how much fun you guys have dog sledding in Alaska, but I might take you up on the invite next summer.  I hear you guys have daylight for over 20 hours a day in July and I've always wanted to see the Aurora Borealis.

Alaska is an incredibly beautiful place and I've been wanting to visit it for the past four-five years.  I almost went this year.  Any advice on planning my trip would be appreciated!

Mirela & co.

In my research, I found that there are NO Builders on AR from the Virgin Islands.

Guess I move there, make one post and voila',  I'm #! in the entire Carrabean!

FYI, here's the stats on builders.  I'll let someone else handle the other service industries.

Morgan:  I am working on a lot of good information for AR Newcomers.  If you have 10,000 points already, that is a VERY good start!  Congratulations!  Most people put up a profile and no blog, thus they really can not get even a mere fraction of the AR experience.

My best advice for newcomers:  If you don't like to write, just copy and paste the statistics for your area.  If you title and tag your blogs correctly and also post them on Localism, it will bring you the clients for your area.  Here are some ideas:  start following particular subdivisions, condo projects, or just product niches: ex-Million Dollar Homes, waterway properties, equestrian properties, etc.   Investors like to see activity broken down by quarters.

I have a lot of good information on the Optimist Group Board.  Join that group and peruse our board for some outstanding solutions, or just subscribe to my blog; I have a lot of helpful posts coming up within the next 30-60 days.  I am very diligent at tracking my advertising, and I will share with you the wonderful ways you can capture today's real estate leads.

I'm proud of you for garnering 10,000 points!  I will visit your blog soon.  Keep at it!  Also don't forget to join several good groups, read and comment on the blogs.  Every comment garners 25 points (must be at least 10 words to get you the points).  You can make up to 10 comments per day, and be awarded up to 250 points per day.  At that rate, you can make 2,500 points every 10 days, so 7,500 points per month.  Even with only a few blogs posted, you'll still reach the 100,000 point landmark within the year.  Good luck!

Mike:  Good luck finding subs!  The warmer and sweeter the climate, the less likely they are to work...  "Dolce fa niente", that's what they call them in Italy (sweet-do-nothing); I know, for I have extensive experience working with builders and developers and this area is not immune to that syndrome...

Posted by Mirela Monte, Myrtle Beach Real Estate (Buyers' Choice Realty) about 10 years ago

Steve:  Excellent job on your profile page!  Your blogs are good and varied, which makes for an interesting read.  I especially liked that blog on e-mails you wrote recently and would love to have you post it on the Optimist Board!

You have one good looking family!  Could your kids get any cuter?  They are just adorable!

Posted by Mirela Monte, Myrtle Beach Real Estate (Buyers' Choice Realty) about 10 years ago

If you believe some of my clients who want to do a lot of the work themselves with "family and friends", NOT A PROBLEM!

They have F&F that will help for a few beers and the sheer enjoyment of the experience.  My advice, don't hand out the beers until the end of the day.

As to the VI, not to worry either.  A few sticks, palm fronds and an oil lamp, what more could you ask for?

Mike:  On the subdivisions I worked, I strongly recommended covering the lines, otherwise all the alcoholic beverage containers found their way down the drains and one of the first professionals the new owners would have to hire after moving in werethe roto-rooter guys...

With those lines covered the evidence was left behind with the rest of the construction debris.  You'd be surprised at how much alcohol is consumed on the job if the general contractor is not running a tight ship.  It still makes me sick to watch some job sites.  Trusses laying on the ground for weeks on end during the rainy season...

A good builder is hard to come by and should be much appreciated.  Builders in this area do such a smoking mirrors' type of job with their agreements and if the person is paying too much attention to the price, and not enough attention to the contractual details and not doing proper investigative work on the builder ahead of time, they will have a most trying experience and in the end they'll spend quite a pretty penny more...

I have a lot of respect for quality builders who put their cards on the table at the inception of the process and do what they say they'll do.  Those are the builders who actually work the job sites along side their subs, a rare breed, but the only builders I will endorse.  They may not have the lowest up-front prices, but in the end they will cost the homeowners the least amount of money and time....

My boyfriend's family has a home in St. Croix and believe me, it's a lot more than a few sticks...  This multi million dollar edifice is amazing!  I had no idea they had homes like that on those islands!

Vickie:  Congratulations on making the top of the front page for CA!  You will touch the 200K mark soon.  I'll have to check out your blogs.  Thank you much for the compliment!

This update just opened my eyes to the fact that Lenn is already well over 500,000. And soon there will be others joining that plateau. How do they do that?

Posted by Esko Kiuru about 10 years ago

Esko:  1.  Congratulations on being comment nr. 100!

2.  Come on!  You already know how; you are on the last leg before breaking the 200K mark yourself...

David:  Ohio is doing quite well, and you're doing even better:  top of the front page...  not too shabby!

Your profile page is pretty good also.  I've never met a cat lover I didn't like.  Are all those cats yours?  I bet having them on your profile page helps connect you with like-minded leads.  Good job!

Sonja:  Thank you very much!  From one statistics queen to another...  a warm salute!

Lisa:  Thank you!  Apparently you are not the only one curious about it.  I've been asking myself these questions for too long and finally decided to do something about it.  Judging by the reception this blog has received, I'm glad I did!

Jon:  I spend several hours of my discretionary time per week blogging or reading the posts here.  I consider it an investment in my business and my career.

Wow, some people have put so much time into this site.  I try to comment everyday and blog as often as time permits.  I have a lot of catching up to do with under 6,000 points!  I really enjoy spending some time on this site though, I thank everyone who contributes.

Mirela,  I didn't read the 100+ responses, but I'm sure there were a few that agreed with your post, so at the risk of duplication "this is great data" it shows that blogging works

Thank you very much for this interesting piece of information/numbers.

I am very curious to know about NYC ranking? New York State, Manhattan in specific?

New York City is not part of NAR, and does not seem a lot of agents know about Active Rain...

Hmm, I guess Oregon doesn't have a very good showing in the numbers.  I'm actually surprised at the number of members in other states.  We'll just have to see what we can do to make up for it in quality :~)

Have some faith, my man!  If you don't care to write it, video tape it, record it, or just copy and paste it.  Either way, just make sure you title and tag it correctly!  ...And don't forget to post it on Localism!

Posted by Mirela Monte, Myrtle Beach Real Estate (Buyers' Choice Realty) about 10 years ago

Terri:  Judging by those Oregon front page members, you've got nothing to worry about: if quality was the measure here, you guys are right there at the top with the very best of the best!

Kris:  Thank you!  What is it that they say: "Liars can figure, but figures don't lie"...

Good to know that I have other statistics' fanatics here!  Numbers always give clarity to the whole picture...

Ed and Cindy:

It's Not Christmas .... But I Felt Like Giving

Great post, but you are not maximizing it.  Great info, well presented, well written.

Here is where you can make it better:

You've posted it on Localism, which is very good.  You can make it even better by choosing a specific location, instead of just the county.  Final destination should be Roseville OR Warren, but pick one.  It will still appear at the county level, so you won't lose that, but it will also be featured in a final, specific location(either Roseville or Warren), which should help you anchor some leads.

You can post each blog to 5 groups.  Find the appropriate groups and post this to five of them.  The Optimist Group would be a good choice.  Every time someone comments on it, it propels it to the top of the board on every group it's inserted to.  This should help you significantly increase the number of comments to each one of your blogs.

You should sign each and every blog with your name.  Find a catch phrase and stamp each one of your blogs with it.  Mike from Tucson taught me that.  My typical signature is Myrtle Beach Real Estate by Mirela Monte.  This will give you lots of Google juice.  Here's an experiment for you:  search Ed and Cindy Knight on Google.  You'll find several entries right now.  Go back and stamp each one of your blogs with your Ed and Cindy Knight and then do a Google search a day or two later.  If you tag it correctly you should find several more Google entries.  That's important; that's how your clients find and analyze you.

Tagging:  You currently have generic tags for this post, words not necessarily present in your post.  Here is tagging that will work better for this blog:  it's not Christmas but I felt like giving, pay it forward, homes and condos roseville or warren, adult well-being services, ed and cindy knight.

OK.  Now you will get there a lot faster!  I'll look for you at the top of your state!

.....and what is the profit of those agents?

Some tend to lose the focus of what they here for.  I have a friend that is in category of those and can't make $50 grand GROSS.  Great blogger......terrible agent.

Posted by TIM MONCRIEF, Over 2,000 homes sold….. (Keller Williams Realty) about 10 years ago

Tim:  Inversely proportional...  OUCH!  I guess he/she does not read any of the posts here...  It's hard to be a lousy agent when you know a lot, and to that end AR is instrumental.

Still, that may be the exception.  The top producers on AR are also the top producers in their fields.  I also wonder how one would know exactly how much money another agent makes.

I have a friend who does not fit the criteria of professional agent by any stretch of the immagination.   She doesn't look it, she doesn't act it.  Still, I was floored when I saw her tax return:  she made over $600K two years ago!

Mirela, what a great blog.  I admire how you took the time to compile this information and converted it to some very interesting reading.  Lenn Harley has some pretty impressive stats, over 565,000 points.  I'm sure it'll take me years before I can get even close to that number, but I don't much mind.  I really enjoy blogging.  I'm an AR newbie and I've met some really amazing people here so far, and I can't tell you how excited I was to learn that you've picked up numerous clients as a result of your AR involvement.  This is just the type of news that a newbie like me needs to hear to get more motivated about blogging.

Thank you so much for pulling together such a unique and informative blog.

Anonymous:  By reading the blogs on AR you simply learn to work SMARTER.

Working smarter leaves you with more money and more discretionary time and blogging is one way to give back what you get from this amazing network.

The funny thing is that the more you give back, the more it keeps on giving...

Posted by Bo Kociuba & Buster Elliott, HOME is Where Your Story Begins (Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Anderson Properties ) almost 10 years ago

Bo:  Just visit AR regularly and read the blogs and post short, informative blogs.  You'll get there in no time. 50 words or more per blog will garner you the 200 points.  Submit the blog to a Channel and get another 25 or 50 for it.  Each comment over 10 words garners 25 points and you can make up to 10 comments per day.  If you post a blog per day and you make 10 comments, you can make 225+7x250=almost 2,000 points.  Any comments others make to your blogs gets you more points (1pt.per comment).  Re-blog the posts that others write and garner 25 points per re-blog.  See?  You'll be there by this time next year!

Posted by Mirela Monte, Myrtle Beach Real Estate (Buyers' Choice Realty) almost 10 years ago

I am at a solid 3000 points! The nice thing for me is Virginia only has about 5000 members so hopefully my climb to the top won't be as steep. Any tips on getting there faster are certainly appreciated. This has been helpful, I am going to look into the 'top' point scorers to see what I am up against. 400,000 seems unattainable right now... unless they have a powerball lottery system for points?

Posted by David Stratuik (Century 21 Redwood Realty) over 8 years ago

Active Rain community changed a lot last few years. More members, higher points scale, more competition.

I hope, one day, I'll blog about my 500k:)
